Who is Samuel "Squire" Tarbox?

Samuel Tarbox (1780-1861) became known as the Squire probably because of his wealth and stature as a business man and founding father of the Town of Westport. He was born in Litchfield, ME. In 1806, soon after marrying Mary "Polly" Brown, he bought the land on Westport from Stephen Parsons.

Samuel Tarbox’s distinguished civic service, included serving as: a Captain in the War of 1812, a member of the House of Representatives from Edgecomb in 1827, Westport's first First Selectman after its incorporation as a town in 1828, and Westport's first Postmaster in 1829.

Does the event barn have heat or A/C?

At this time, the barn does not have AC but there are plenty of large doors and windows that will allow for a comfortable climate. We do have kerosene heaters available for rent in the barn.

We highly recommend you book a wedding planner to help with logistics, however, we do not require one. We do require that you book a day-of coordinator.

What if I need to check-in early or late?

Our check-in window is anytime after 3:00 pm. We will text you the day of your stay with our guest guide and to confirm your ETA. We offer self check in and our guide provides detailed directions to your room, as well as answers to any questions you may have!

Do you allow children?

We gladly welcome well-behaved children! Most of our rooms, with the exception of room 7, are only able to accommodate a total of two guests max. Up to 4 guests can be accommodated in room 7 but we ask that the children are age appropriate to climb a ladder into a loft space.
